I am a little confused, the 1920 US Census gives Lena as being born 1880 details below:

According to Danena Lena unknown Doane she was born 20 May 1880 and passed away 20 Feb 1979.

Danena married Herbert Doane. Herbert was my G Grandfather Eugene's brother. My G Grandfather passed away when I was 3. I remember his lovely wife, my G Grandmother Myra. I don't remember Danena.

I often wonder if my maternal grandparents spoke to their family members. No one ever came to the house while I was visiting my grandparents or g grandparents.

Yes,

Some say Denena died in Boston others say Brewster, which Boston is possible. The same for Lillian Gertrude Rowell and Herbert. Herbert and Denena where unable to have children. Lillian's brother lived with the Doane's for a bit also. Their oldest sister moved to CA. I don't know if the Doane's ever legally adopted Lillian but on occasion you will see she also used the Doane surname. Here is a story that has been shared with me:

Lillian Gertrude (everyone called her Gertrude) was adopted by Mrs. Doane and her husband.  I have no idea whether it was a legal adoption or whether they just took Gertrude under their wing.  Census records for 1920 and 1930 show her as a boarder.  I met Mrs. Doane when my own daughter was very, very young - 1955.  (I found an old picture identifying the date).  Gertrude, Mrs. Doane, Elliott (Gertrude's brother) and his wife Edie traveled to the West Coast for a visit with Martha Florence - the sister to Gertrude and Elliott - and her husband Charlie.  Gertrude never married and lived with Mrs. Doane until she (Mrs. Doane) passed away.

 

Following is what information I could find on Mr. and Mrs. Doane:  his given name was Herbert William; his birth date was about May 18, 1874 and he was born in MA.  The 1880 Census shows him in Brewster, Barnstable, MA with his parents.  He was probably born and raised there.  The 1920 and 1930 Federal Censuses found him still residing in Barnstable.  Mrs. Doane's given name was Lena.  I found a birthdate for her of May 20, 1879.  She was born in Canada and died February 20, 1979.

May I ask if you are following the Doane lineage? If so you can go to:

They will have info that goes much further back. I have asked them to add my g grandfather to the lineage and when I last looked they have not as of yet.

 

Would you like Herbert Doane's family info or you looking to go back further? I have followed Doane to apx 1100-1400's but I don't have it all certified due to monies. The Doane's also have a family book.

 

I forget, think I've tried finding Herbert's living son and haven't found him yet. There is one more gentleman I have to try to call again. The two possible's live in Boston or the locality.
