My most wanted ancestor is my great great grandmother, Elizabeth Thompson (nee Copley/Compland) who was born about 1822 in Georgia and who died in Coosa County, Alabama roughly 1890 give or take five years. I am most anxious for any information about her antecedents, who they were and where they came from. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you, Phillip

Hello Phillip
I don't know if this would be helpful or not but there were a bunch of Thompsons in the Madison County GA Area. There were Several Joel's in my line and a John. John was from NC and used both the Thompson and Thommason spelling. My Immed Thompson was my G Grandmother born in 1878 daughter of Joel. In madison. Hope this can be of some help. I do know that that they scattered about the south.

I will check out Madison County, Ga. Evidence suggests that James Thompson was from SC. Elizabeth Copeland was from Georgia so James must have spent very little time in Georgia before marrying Elizabeth and moving to Alabama. A relative wrote me that Elizabeth's maiden name was Copeland not Copley, and that she was in some way related to the Tally family that loomed large in early Georgia and later in other parts of the South. I want to trace each of my ancestors as far back as possible but I am especially interested in Elizabeth at this time because I am trying to trace my mitochrondrial dna line. I have got as far as Elizabeth and there the trail stops. Phillip
