I have run into a dead-end on the parents of James Arnet, my g.g.g.grandfather. He was born in Duplin Co.,NC between 1790-95 & was married in MuhlenbergCo., KY in 1815. He married Elizabeth Wilkins, also born in Duplin Co.The only other Arnet in Muhlenberg Co., at that time, was Elizabeth Arnet Garris, wife of Sikes Garris. Suspect some relationship bet. Eliz. & Jas.Have found a Deborah Arnet in DuplinCo in 1810. 1st time for her on a census. She is shown w/ 2 almost grown sons & a grown Arnet w/fam. next door. At the same time, Philemon Arnet, thought to be the father of Eliz. Arnet Garris, is shown having moved to Robeson Co., as well as a Zadock Arnet, & Philemon's son Perigrine, is already shown there. Possible she was the wife of Philemon & they split, leaving her as the head of the house for the 1st time?Next census, a William is shown w/family in Duplin.(Probably one of the boys shown w/her in the 1810 census. James age would fit w/her as his mother, & both he & his oldest son named a son William. The family story, told by my father, & by a historian in NC was that a Jim Arnet was carried by his mother & a neighbor woman from NC to KY because he was too small to ride in the covered wagon. If anyone has any info on any of these people, you can reach me at dannastevens@gmail.com
