My lost great grandfather!

I have been able to trace all of my family lines quite far all except for my Maternalgreat grandfather....Adrian Cook...aka Adrianus Kok other then the 1920 and 1930 U.S.census,there is no information on him.Any suggestions from others who have had this issue?its like he disappeared!
