My grandfather William Watt Wallace was born in 1883 in Bellshill, Bothwell, Lanarkshire, Scotland. He emigrated to the USA in 1907 thru' Ellis Island, and obtained employment at Ben's Creek, Myra, Washington Cambria, Pennyslvania in the coal mines. His wife, Jeanie, and their 2 year old son, Thomas Watt (my father), joined him in 1908.

Family rumour suggests Thomas Watt Wallace was orphaned at a young age and lived with various relatives(?) in several different states until he crossed the Canada/Us border sometime between 1925-1926.

I would love to discover where and when William Watt and Jeanie died. They are not to be found in the Federal 1910 census. Any help would be most appreciated.

Good afternoon Lillian-

I find a Thomas Wallace age 13, in Chicago, Illinois, living with a Givin family on the 1920 census, he and his parents were born in Scotland. He immigrated circa 1908. The Givins, Robert and Anna are Irish and arrived in 1907. Robert's brother James is also living there, he arrived in 1911.

I also found a family in 1910 headed by a Thomas Wallace(age 31) with wife Jeanett(age 31). in Illinois, with children Thomas(age 5) and Anna, a few months old. They lived in Mount Olive, Macoupin County, IL. The ages are pretty close, the family, including a James Wallace, listed as a boarder were all from Scotland, and they immigrated about the right time frame(1906-1908). There is also an Alexander Young from Scotland, I wonder if this could be Jeanett's brother?
Hi Kate: Thanks for your input. I do have the 1920 census entry particulars, and believe they are correct and relate to my family. I had previously eliminated the 1910 census entry, based on the fact that the head of household was a "Thomas" - not William, however, on second thought, I guess it's possible that the enumerator might have been in error and mistakenly entered Thomas instead of William. So, this might be worthy of a second look. The boarder named James is also inviting, as William had a brother named James. The Alexander Young is not connected to Jeanette/Jeanie, as her maiden name was Smith, so he is likely just another boarder.

I do appreciate your help and you have given me something to think about. Much appreciated.
