Getting Started!

Welcome and thank you for supporting Most Wanted.

Please post your challenge to the Most Wanted! Discussion Forum
Click here: Post your Most Wanted/Brick Wall/Broken Link Challenge

There seems to be an RSS feed advantage to posting challenges to the Most Wanted "Discussion Forum" rather than on the "Comment Wall." It's also easier to keep responses and attachments organized if a challenge is posted as a Discussion. Twenty challenges appear on this page; click "View All" to browse the collection and to subscribe to the RSS feed.

In addition to the link above, "Post your Most Wanted ... Challenge," you will find a "Start Discussion" button located on this page at the end of the items in the section that follows "Getting Started."

Thanks for the welcome. I am researching a line of the Waite family - New England, New York, Ohio (Clarke Co), Indiana (Miami Co). I am trying to find the father of Sullivan(t) Waite, b. about 1802 in NY, d. 1850 in Gilead, Ind. He was married to Margaret Woods of Champaign, Ohio. There are some listings by Marsha L. Ensminger about Sullivan Waite. Evidently, her husband is descended from Sullivan T. Waite who was the son of the man I'm researching and the grandson of "stone wall" Waite. I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who can help with this family. Thanks. Mary Ellen

Having problems finding the parents of George W. Sunderland. He was born October 20, 1827 in Montgomery County, OH. He died February 14, 1911 in Franklin County, OH. His death certificate has his mother as Christena Cutler who was born in Pennsylvania. It states that his father was from Pennsylvania also. We cannot find any information on them. George married Louisa Ann Field.

Comment by Clifton Cann on August 14, 2009 at 5:56pm
Robert Cann was my paternal Great Grandfather and has been my most persistent brick wall since I began my research at least 15 years ago. Family tradition had him born in Tiverton, Devon, England on the 28th of May, 1827. I have not been able to find any information on his parents or siblings. However Canadian Census reports indicate that he came to Canada in 1858 and was born in 1832 (1871 Census) or 1833 (1881 Census) or 1831 (1891 Census). It is not until the 1901 Census that he is listed as being born in 1828 and then the family somehow ended up with 1827. A search of the 1851 England Census brings up a very interesting result in that there is a Robert Cann listed as an inmate in some sort of institution in Crediton. What makes this particularly interesting to me is that he is listed together with a younger boy Thomas Cann age 11 and the family has mentioned they thought Robert had a younger brother Thomas but they had no information on him. Robert is 18 in the 1851 Census which would mean he was born in about 1833. Looking back to the 1841 Census there is also a Robert Cann, 8 years old, born in Devon and living in Crediton with his parents John and Mary and an older sister Sarah. My Great Grandfather named one of his daughters Sarah and another Mary. Could this be the same Robert? And if so, what happened to his parents? Where are Sarah and Thomas and how do I tie this all together? Canadian passenger lists don't start until 1865 so have been no help. If anyone can help me piece this all together I would be most grateful! Thanks.

One of my brick walls is John McGown but may be spelled one of the other two ways. I don't know his birth date or death date. He was born in Tn maybe Franklin co. He married in Ky & settled in Indiana with his wife Melinda Thomas McGowen. They started having children in the 1830"s in Indiana. I don't know his parents or siblings.
