For all those who are members of, or interested in mitochondrial haplogroup I, which is passed down in the maternal line. Our haplogroup is widespread in Europe and Western Eurasia, but is nowhere common, rarely reaching 5% of any population.

Hi Carol. You've been mt tested more than I maybe... I'm Hap I 2a. The earliest female I know is Sarah Payne b @1825 in AL. and yours?
No Shorts for you I understand now.. THANK YOU for sharing
Joy - No, I am not the tester with that number, and I do not have any Short ancestors.
I will email you further about your wish to contact the other project member. Let's just communicate on this subject by e-mail, since this does not directly involve haplogroup I. Thanks.
Martha are you the tester #182165 listing Frances Short b 1839 AL? Please email me; mgarabians@eaglecom.net as I don't understand why she is listed as earliest known mt ancestor?
Joy - The Short family is not part of my family tree, so you may wish to recheck where you found them. All the best.... Martha
Thank you, Martha. I hope the Frances Short tester will get to me as her dad Louis Lewis Short b GA 1809 is the brother of my James Jefferson Short b GA 1810 & moved to Walker Co, AL. Martha, your Frederick TAYLOR SHORT & wife Frances Short died in Jefferson Co, AL & are buried in Pleasant Hill Cemetery... maybe Dug Hill Cemetery. If we're connected, I'll share more. Joy B
Hi Joy - I responded to your e-mail on this and another subject that you asked about. Good luck!
From the site I see that my mtdna Hap I 2a is a mystery clade. I tested with National Geographic & received results from genebase... the first notation is
#16129. I really would like to add my results to the site but can't pay to retest. Can anyone help since this is "rare mystery"???
