How do I find someone?

I am trying to find a little girl whom her father (who was on the run from the law) took her & her brother from their mother in Jackson, NC she was sick and she died somewhere and was buried between Jackson, NC & GA - where he fled to.

Here is all the info I know:

Her name is Mary Hooper. Her father was (I do know her father & mother's name) in NC in 1900 and by 1920 he was living in GA. So I have a 20 year span.

I was thinking that since he was running from the law, when she died, he could have either burried her or put fake names on the death certificate.
