Hi Lisa,
I got to the library yesterday to look up your info. Apparently, Benjamin Parks find was what started the entire gold rush in Georgia! I am going to send you the info I did find directly, but I am still searching for a map.

Wow thank you so much!! I have read that about the find by Benjamin Parks, I have also read that some dispute that fact. Which ever I still find it all very interesting lol. From what I have read, Robert's land was just east of the Cherokee Nation, I think there was a creek that divided the land. It was in Hall county at the time of the gold find but later was Lumpkin County from what I have read.

According to the book "The Georgia Gold Rush" by Dr. David Williams, O'Barr sold the gold mine property to William White, Joseph Rucker, Lemuel Banks and William Underwood on January 9, 1830 for $1,600. I believe O'Barr purchased the property in July 1828 for $100. The next owners pulled a ton of gold out and sold the property in 1833 to Senator John C. Calhoun for $6,000. Not a bad profit.

this William White was my 4th great-uncle and Joseph Rucker was a 2nd cousin 5 times removed. I would love to know what facts or documents you may have found on this property and gold mine. I do not know where the mine was. I have several ancestors who owned proptions of this and another mine in Habersham County.

Sorry to say so far I do not have any facts or documents on this property. Not even real sure of where it was! That is one of the reasons I joined this group lol, I had hopes that someone here would know something. I live in Arkansas and have never even been to Georgia but would really love to someday!! If I find anything interesting I will post it here!!!
