Irish Nortons

It's time to start a thread on Irish Norton or Naughton or O-Naughton.

We have quite a few Irish Norton DNA samples that can be found here.

The Irish Norton families we have pedigrees are:

Edward, II Norton b: 1687 Armagah,North Ireland
William Norton & Jemima Pickeral of Pickens District, SC

Jesse Norton b.1819 of Mars Hill, Madison Co, NC

Pittsylvania, VA Nortons

We also have 2 DNA groups without pedigrees.

Also there is a big group (10) that is unresolved. By this I mean there are no pedigrees that link these Nortons and the DNA samples are no conclusive in linking them. It could be that many of these are linked but their Family DNA signature is soft with several mutations.

I will be working to resolve this.

I am looking for information on my GG Grandmother, Mary Norton married to John Delaney born approx. 1826 in Ireland. Mary was born in Ireland approx. 1830. John and Mary I assume were married in Ireland. In the 1860 census in Allamakee County, Iowa, it shows John and Mary have a daughter Bridget born approx. 1854 stating PA. as her birth place. However in the 1870 census it shows Bridget as being born in Ireland. So I am also assuming they immigrated around the PA. area. This has been the most complicated search I have encountered. I have no parents names for Mary Norton or John Delaney. I believe John was born in the Meath area. Any help would be graetly appreciated. Tina

Let's build your pedigree first:

Mary Norton
m. John Delaney b. abt.1826 Ireland
John and Mary I assume were married in Ireland emigrated to PA.

By 1826 there should be emigration records to PA. I think PA is probable. However, it would be also likely that they met and married in PA. Our DNA is not going to be of much use. Have you looked at emigration records?

Hi Scott, thank you for the help. I did find in my notes that Mary was born Aug 2, 1830 and is from County Meath Ireland, now whether she was born there or just arrived from there I am not clear on. John was born Sep. 30, 1826.
I have looked around for emigration records but have been unsuccessful. I would have thought it would be an easy task since there is a child involved. I have been working on these two for over 5 years...lol....and I have not come up with a thing.
