Maybe we should make a "bygdebok"-list under discussion forum, so we know which "bygdeboker" our members have.

I have 4 Vaksdal bygdeboker from Hordaland...for Bruvik, Dale and Stamnes parishes, plus the general one about the arts and crafts, farm life, building methods, etc.

The first three are the histories of the families on each farm. If you have ancestors from a farm in this area, I will do lookups for you. I need the farm name and a first and patronymic name and a date to find someone.

I am using Windows XP and I can switch between languages in my taskbar. Go to Control Panel & Regional and Language Options

Yes, a good idea Torill. I will create one list under discussion forum.

Maybe we could create a list here with information about where your ancestors came from in Norway and where we Norwegians know more about ancestry in our own country

Hello Patricia,
Try to use the parish registers for Snasa (or Snåsa)

Hello Everyone.

This is such a wonderful help to anyone researching Norway. My great grandmother, Petra Skavland, was born in Norway and immigrated to the US in the late 1800's or early 1900's. She married Carl Sem somewhere between 1900 and 1910. They lived in North Dakota for a while. I have found some census records that may put them in Washington as well. I do know that they lived in Montana as well. I am actually having a hard time with this line. Any help would be appreciated.

I do know that Petra comes from Snasa or Snaasen, Norway and I believe the last name is from the farm they lived on. She did have 2 brothers that I know came over as well: Peter and Albert.

Again, any help with either Carl or Petra would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, Patty Appleton
