Henry Prince and Sarah Jane Elson

I'm trying to find info about the marriage of Henry Prince (b. abt. 1834) and Sarah Jane Elson (b. abt. 1839) . A marriage record would be particularly helpful because it might lead me to Sarah's parents. Henry's parents are Joseph Prince and Elizabeth (last name unknown).

They married in Ontario probably around 1859, based on the birth of their first child (August 1860).

I've already found them both in all the Canadian censuses from 1852 on. Unfortunately it seems that Sarah's father died quite young, so he isn't in even the 1852 census. And her mother's name is Mary, which isn't exactly helpful! Any help would be greatly appreciated! This family's been frustrating me for a long time now!

Hi, I have a Prince (through marriage) in my tree, however he was from Eau Claire, Wisconsin, not Ontario. Sorry.

I looked at 1851 census and find Mary 29 with Ann 14, Sarah 12, Elvira 10, Elizabeth 1

so husband died by January 1852

I did a search for Elizabeth Elson marriage and found one: Married Walter LEWIS Nov 28, 1878 London, Middlesex father listed as John, mother Mary. His father James Lewis, mother Elizabeth

Thanks. Yes, I've also seen that marriage record. The problem is there's no way of knowing for sure if that Elizabeth is Sarah Jane's sister. :(

I found a Prince family in Mara, old Ontario County the other day. John and Angel, with Peter, Andrew, George, Eliza and Anne. It interested me because I am looking for Albert Prince who married Elizabeth Lyle (from Reach Township) circa 1860 and had a daughter, Anne, in 1861-62. Young Anne was born in Mariposa--not a million miles from Mara.

Sorry I can't help with your Henry and Sarah Jane, but I thought I would offer another location for the surname Prince.

I have ELSON ancestry from Ontario as well. Joshua (Hirham?) ELSON who married Ruby Ann VANDECAR on

8 Feb 1846 - they later separated (abandoned?) and she moved to Michigan with a man named William LOTT. She married LOTT, after having children by him, just before he died. Her daughter Cynthia ELSON was the first wife of my great-great-grandfather, Heman F. DAWSON and the mother of my great-grandfather, Herbert Heman DAWSON.
