Comment by Lynne W. McDonough My connection to Ontario is my ancestor Jacob SNYDER and his wife Nancy ESMAY/ISMAY. They died about 1825-26 and are both buried in Ernestown, Midland Dist., Ontario. Jacob was from a Palatine family (Schneider) who emigrated to New York. During the Revolutionary War they were sympathetic to the British and migrated north and then into Canada. Their son, Isaac, returned to the U.S., and I descend from him; but I believe that other sons remained in Canada. I would love information on this family. Nancy Esmay/Ismay Snyder is a dead end for me

Hi Lynne - I posted your query here on the Discussion Board as that will help keep responses and your question as one thread. Easier to follow and for others to jump in! :-)

First may I correct something - Ernestown used to be in the Midland District but it ceased to exist after 1849. Ernestown is now in Lennox and Addington County.

This is Loyalist settlement area, and if you have not checked the Upper Canada Land Petitions, you should do that. Loyalists were entitled to land grants, as were their sons and daughters, and there is often a greaet deal of genaelogical information in their petitions.

You can also check for their sons and daughters petitons. That may help you track their children.

Hi, Lynne: Have you found out anything about the other Snyders? I have a Jacob Snyder (born 1807) in my family tree. He married Magdalena Pickard (born May 18, 1806). They have three daughters that I know of: Sarah Ann (born Nov 30, 1830; married John J. Johnson about 1858 in New York, died Feb 17, 1871); Betsie and Lany Ann. Sarah is my 2x great grandmother.
Hi Jeanette: I don't know that I have any connection to your Jacob Snyder born in 1807. My Jacob Snyder is the one born in 1744/45, son of Johannes Jost Snyder and Anna Magdalena Elisabetha Flagler. Jacob married Nancy Ismay/Esmay, born about 1745, parents unknown. Jacob and Nancy had 8 children. Their son, Isaac, is my ancestor.
