What's Available in Ships Passenger Lists to Canada
If your ancestors immigrated to Ontario Canada from Europe, England, Ireland, Scotland, Germany or other countries that required a journey across the ocean, you will be looking for ships passenger lists.

For Canadian Ships Passenger Lists before 1865 there are alternate records. There are records of shipping agents (such as J J Cooke), emigrant agent records in Montreal Quebec and Kingston Ontario, Immigration Schemes such as Petworth Immigrants and more.
For Canadian Ships Passenger Lists after 1865 you can search online or order microfilm.

I had a quick look at this site. It seem a little complicated to follow, but, as far as I could see it doesn't contain any passenger lists after 1960. I remember holidaying with my aunt Eileen and uncle Patrick (Heaney) in Dumbarton, Scotland in the early sixties, but, soon after that the family emigrated to Canada. I think they eventually settled in London, Ont, but I'm not certain of that. Eileen would now be in her late 80s and Patrick about 90, so they may well be dead now, and since my mother died I have lost contact with the Canadian relatives, so I was hoping to find a clue in the passenger lists

Hello John,
Finding a Canadian Passenger List isn't easy. :-) It's a complex round of searching different archives or websites, so that may be why my website seemed complicated to you. Just go slow, read each link title and explanation and start clicking.
Records of passenger lists after January 1, 1936 are in the custody of Citizenship and Immigration Canada. To request a copy of another person's immigration record, you must mail your request to:

Public Rights Administration

Ottawa, ON
K1A 1L1
Include the full name at time of entry into Canada, date of birth and year of entry plus any other info that might help, such as names of other family members travelling together.
You have to submit an Access to Information Request Form ($5.00 fee) and must be a Canadian citizen or live in Canada. As well, proof of death has to be submitted (death must have taken place over 20 years ago) or a signed consent form from the person whose passenger record you want.
If it's your own passenger record you want, the rules are slightly different. See

Thanks for that Lorine, but it seems I will have to get the information some other way. I'm not a Canadian citizen, I live in England, and I have no idea if my aunt and uncle are still alive, which seems to rule out getting the information that way. Thanks anyway.
