Anyone have any information on Margaret A GLOW b 1812 in Stamford, Ontario? She was married to William KALAR b 1807 in Stamford as well. I would like any information anyone has on her parents!

My connection to Ontario is my ancestor Albert William SCULTHORPE and his wife Mary DESORMEUAX. My grandfather came over to Canada from England and my grandmother was born in Ontario. My great grandfather Richard Walter SCULTHORPE also brought most of his large family to Canada with him. Some followed later. My grandmother was Catholic, but became a Baptist. I did find proof on Ancestry that one of Richard's children converted from Church of England to Catholic. My grandmother's parents were Napoleon and Annie Smith. I've tried to find out who there parents were, but that is my brick wall.

My husband's family came over from Scotland with the Lanark Society Settlers in 1821. Most of his family stayed in Lanark County and some went to Renfrew County. I am willing to do look-ups from the material and research that I have already done. The Angus family married into several families that had also arrived from Scotland via the Lanark Society Settlers.

My connection to Ontario is my ancestor Jacob SNYDER and his wife Nancy ESMAY/ISMAY. They died about 1825-26 and are both buried in Ernestown, Midland Dist., Ontario. Jacob was from a Palatine family (Schneider) who emigrated to New York. During the Revolutionary War they were sympathetic to the British and migrated north and then into Canada. Their son, Isaac, returned to the U.S., and I descend from him; but I believe that other sons remained in Canada. I would love information on this family. Nancy Esmay/Ismay Snyder is a dead end for me.

Yes, Lorine, it was a Catholic wedding. As I stated, it was at St. Hugue's in Sarsfield, Ontario. At the time, it was most likely either Russell, or Russell-Prescott County. I've even viewed the microfilmed records from the parish, about 20 years ago, and was unable to locate it there at the time. That's why I'm so frustrated with it. I've even checked the Drouin records available at Ancestry.com.

Bride: Flora Miriam Foubert age 23 yrs d/o Napoleon Amable and Ellen Swain
Groom: John Leonard O'Neill age 27 s/o Leon(Leandre) and Margaret Stewart.
Church: St. Hugue's, Sarsfield

It's a French-speaking parish, and one time when I sent a note mentioning the "English" button on the parish website didn't work, I got a message that it was because French is the language spoken by parishioners. It was a bit snippy. I don't know how receptive they'd be to any inquiries. So, I've left them alone.

Hi all, the marriage and death images on ancestry.com are great for Ontario. I went searching last year and I got hit after hit on the Keffer and Puterbaugh/Putterbaugh lines.

Elaine, you say you are looking for a 1922 marriage record. Can you give us the bride and groom's names and ages? Perhaps the group can help find them!

It is possible the marriage was not registered, but there should at the least be a church record. Catholic events were often not sent on to be registered - was it a Catholic wedding?
Comment by William Bruce Hillman on July 12, 2009 at 6:21am
I tend to describe my family as very North American. The Hillmans today are a mixture of English(Hillman), Scottish(May, McKay, Turner, Steele), Cornish(Thomas), and Mennonite(Shoemaker). We can be found in Elgin County, Middlesex County(London& Mos township), Lambton County, Sanilac County in Michigan. Ancestors have come from England, Scotland, Switzerland, Pennsylvania, and Michigan.
