I am looking for info on the parents of Thomas Brennan born abt 1837.

I believe his father was Matthew Brennan but not 100% sure.

It's possible Matthew was a gardener in West Toronto in 1871.

I believe he was born abt 1809 in Ireland.

My Park line, and my Joslin/Joslyn line are both from Ontario.  The Joslyns came from the US as UEL into New Brunswick and the Park's came from Scotland - both then into Ontario.  I have found my Joslins in Oxford Co and the Park line in Oxford Co. and in city of Hamilton.  The Joslins (all large Families) then shifted into Michigan.  Some Joslins moved west to Manitoba and Saskatchewan as did my direct Park line.

I am new to GenealogyWise, and this group immediately caught my interest. My Millman and Parker ancestors emigrated from Holsworthy, Devon, England to Elgin County, Ontario. When I was a child, we used to visit my great great aunt every summer. Someday I'd like to make a return visit to do onsite research and fill in some of my holes.

someone had a question about Border Crossing MI>< Ontario and it was regarding Robert Fields. I have his marriage record to Normandy Morse Nov 21, 1872 Macomb Co., MI plus see him in 1880 census in Richmond MI. In 1900 census now Laura born Nov 1856 and 27yrs married is with son Edward born Feb 1876 and his wife Stella.

There certainly are a number of Shavers in Dundas and Stormont Counties. I have a few of them in my family tree - mostly from Finch Twp., Stormont County.

Just found my way back to this group.

My line seems to come from Ontario, Dundas, Kent and Owen Counties.

Martha Campbell, b 1841, Kent> John Campbell, b 1815 (I think Ireland)

Simon Nelson Fader b 1835,> Matilda, Dundas Co.> Simon Fader,b1803,Dundus,>John Fader (Vetter) 1779 New York State,> Lucas Vetter, b 1723 Germany.

other name that show up are - Shaver/Shaeffer; Standford, Lamont, McNeill, Fraser, Quail.  but I do not have much information on these.

Anyone connect to these people?

Debby W., Not only do I have brack walls but I am also geographically helpless!. I live in NJ and even with Ontario Locator I am having difficulties tracking my Pencil/Pencille family.

John Pencil, Sr was a Butler's Ranger who did not accept a land grant in Niagara but accepted one in Fredericksburg because his wife's family also had grants there. Besides his wife's kids from a previous marriage, John & Eva Pencil had 1 child, John Pencil, Jr. of North Fredericksburg who married Fanny Jackson of Richmond circa 1810-1816 (all this according to their own land petitions). John Pencil, Jr was nominated as a constable in Richmond c1809 & served in the Lennox/Addington militia until around 1830. They had several chidlren - some of whom remained in the Lennox/Addington/Frontenac/Kingston area.

 

Their younger children, however, stated that they were born in Waterloo. Orrin Pencil stated not only was he born in Waterloo but that his parents lived & died on the farm there. John Pencil III also stated that he was born in Waterloo but was living in Reach Twp. when he married a woman from Whitby. I found an elderly John Pencil living in Reach Twp. on the 1861 census with a younger wife as Mrs. Pencil. I assume this John is John, Jr. originally from Lennox & Add. who may have remarried. There are other suspected children James & William found in Whitby.

 

With the changing boundaries of several locations in that western part of Ontario, I have become entirely confused as to where to search for any records for this family. The original John, Sr. was listed as Church of England for religion. I suspect John, Jr & Fanny were involved with the early Methodist movement as most of their suspected children are listed E.M. or Wesleyan. The 1861 Reach Twp. John Pencil is listed as Adventist which was also the religion of John III according to his marriage record on Ancestry. Another suspected child Sara Timmerman was baptized into the Wesleyan faith when she was an adult. She was living in Flamborough Twp. Waterdown Village at the time c1844.

 

Given this geographic mess, who/what library/historical society should I be contacting for the younger children who moved towards the west?
