Family & local history - presented in a different way .... !
This evening, Friday 25 March, & also in the evening of Saturday 26 March,
there will be projections onto a wall of a large block of flats in Cowley,
celebrating the rich and varied cultural life of the area through the last
100 years. The projection will be continuously cycled round, and will be on
show 7pm - 10pm. The projection will show the change in Cowley from a rural
to an industrial community, and also feature some of the residents,
photographed by one of the artists involved in the I, Cowley project.
The I, Cowley project had its first public phase last summer, when a shop in
Cowley was used to feature artefacts and documents from Cowley's past,
supplied by Oxfordshire Record Office, Oxfordshire Studies & the Museum of
Oxford, in conjunction with a team from Fusion Arts & the Ark-T project who
focussed on capturing the oral history of the area, and taking photographs
of some of the residents. Oxfordshire Family History Society had a presence
in the shop, and was able to help visitors with their family history.
The project has been supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
The project website is at
http://www.icowley.info/As I understand it, the photos under "curiosities" will be shown, as well as
those under "images", so these will give some idea of what visitors may be
going to see on the Cowley tower.
