In 2010 there will be at least two events celebrating the arrival of these hardy men and women who had suffered greatly from wars, famine, broken promises and the hardships of travel from southwestern Germany, down the Rhine to Holland, England and, finally, New York. The shores of the Hudson River must have been a welcome sight. They were reminded of the Rhine and could envision vineyards and farms that would sustain them and their families for centuries to come in a place that also offered freedom and opportunity.
We who are their descendants will honor them at the national convention of Palatines to America to be held June 17-19, 2010 in Fishkill, NY and at an event in Germantown, NY October 2 and 3, 2010. The latter will feature Henry Z. Jones, Jr., the renowned Palatine genealogist who has given Palatine descendants so much and whose books continue to be the primary source of information about this population.
