I descend from Wm. Armfield and Jacob Brown. I submitted these lines on my grandsons for the Children of the American Revolution and they were accepted. I submitted these for myself to the DAR and they haven't been approved yet.

Brad, I am not sure where in Indiana they were. I have a Ellen/Eleanor/Nellie Adamson married to John Tharp b. Ohio - when/were??? Their eldest children are said to be born in Indiana - maybe Indianapolis. Their youngest - Martha - born in Missouri. I find them in census records for 1850 (Japser Co, IA), 1870 (Page County, IA) and 1880 (Nemaha County, NE) - plus several Iowa State Census. I also do not find any hint of John Tharp before they show up in Japser Co. It is possible that one or both had a previous marriage and his/hers/their kids, hence the confusion.

I suspect the Eleanor is the daughter of John Adamson and Mary Hammer (same age and birth state) - http://www.quakersurnames.net/adamson.html (about 2/3 the way down) - but all the online family trees have her married to a Joseph Herron or Hearn and dying maybe in Texas or Tenn??. Most of John and Mary's other children went to Jasper County, Iowa along with a number other families from Lost Creek MM.

I have the descendants of my Eleanor and John Tharp listed here - http://iagenweb.org/jasper/pioneers/tharp-john.htm . The Jasper County site has a lot more about the Adamsons and Hammers. I had found a book at Heritage Quest for Indiana Quaker minutes - but Eleanor is never listed, but lots of other Adamson's are....Thanks so much for any guidance..........

I am researching the ancestry and descendants of the Quaker families surnamed NIXON, ARNOLD, HICKMAN and CHAMBERLAIN(E) residing in CHESTER, DELAWARE and BUCKS counties, PENNSYLVANIA in the late 1600's and early 1700's. Specifically looking for a WILLIAM NIXON of BUCKS COUNTY, PA who had a son named GEORGE born about 1718. Surname may also be spelled as NICKSON.

Tina, I have some Adamson's in my tree that fit your description. Were they in Wayne Co., IN? I have a Jonathon Adamson d. 1835 in Wayne Co., IN. Was married to Ruth Williams, daughter of Isaac Williams Sr and Rachel Overman Pike. I also have a John Wesley Adamson married to Fannie Kern and a Thomas Adamson married to Rachel Williams, sister of Ruth. Guessing that Thomas and Jonathon were brothers.

Anyone researching the Adamson family. They were in the LostCreek MM in Jefferson County, Tennessee in the early 1800's. They then moved to Indiana, then to Missouri and finally to Jasper County, Iowa.

To Tracy
I have many Quakers in my family. Quaker records are wonderful for genealogy if this is true for you. Meeting records show births, deaths, movement from one Meeting to another, marriages both within the Meeting or with a person who was without, discussions about matters of faith, and so forth.

If your possible Quaker ancestors were in an area with a relatively large Quaker population, you may be fortunate enough to have the minutes of the Meeting(s) indexed by William Wade Hinshaw, who published a number of volumes in his Encyclopedia of American Quaker Genealogy. I personally shelled out the big bucks to have a personal copy of his Vol III, New York, on my shelf because of my many old Long Island and NYC area ancestors. He did other volumes with which I am less familiar, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Iowa, and others. In whatever genealogical library you use, I suggest looking for his Encyclopedia for a possible location, or in his surname index for your surname(s) of interest. His Encyclopedia may probably be online various places as well, though I haven't needed to look.
I will gladly do look-ups for anyone in my well-used New York volume.....

My fourth great-grandmother Hannah Baker [1775-1843] was received as a Quaker in 1805 in the Valley Preparative Meeting, Plattekill, Ulster County, NY. She married Caleb Church in 1796 and had 10 children including son Benjamin, my ancestor. She became a Quaker preacher and went around on horseback with Hannah Frye. I am trying to find her parents, likely in Ulster County. Also would like to know more about Hannah Frye. Thank you.
