Swiss Red River colonists in book "Le Canada et les Suisses" by E.H. Bovay

The book: "Le Canada et les Suisses 1604-1974" [in French] by E.H. Bovay (1976) has some great information about the Swiss colonists at Red River especially in Chapter 4 "Les pionniers suisses de la colonie de Lord Selkirk a la Riviere rouge."

The book also has a chapter [Chapter 5] devoted to Peter Rindisbacher with illustrations of many of his paintings. 

Of special interest in the appendix is a list of the Swiss colonists at the Red River from 1821. The colonists are listed alphabetically by last name and are listed in family groups with their place of birth, if known and age in 1822. Mr. Bovay adds remarks from his research about many of the colonists such as name of spouse, date and place of death,  whether the individual or spouse was a former de Watteville or Des Meuron soldier, religion, profession, dates of arrival and departure from the Red River, if known, where the person settled, if known, etc.

Also in the appendix is a list of all known works [at that time] by the Swiss painter and Red River colonist, Peter Rindisbacher.

This book may be out of print now but perhaps can be ordered on interlibrary loan. It is worth seeing even if you don't read French.
