50s musical actress was the daughter of vaudevillian Henry Vernon, grand-daughter of Harry Finkelstein.
My elder relatives remember meeting her, but just before she died, we had a chance to inquire about our family connection & she denied any. Probably the reflexive response of an elderly celebrity who just wanted her privacy....

Welcome, Michael. :)

In my own research, I found that that sometimes those connected to the theatre of that time would rather deny that time in their lives. Have you found records and examples of her work, and the work of Henry Vernon and Harry Finkelstein?
Well, there is a pretty big filmography of Dolores Gray, many magazine interviews etc.
Her biography is skimpy, just that she was the daughter of a vaudevillian who died at 35 & she had a hardscrabble upbringing in Chicago, even to the point of once being shot in a gang fight. Of her father, Henry Vernon, there are just a few mentions in cast listings from around the turn of the century, nothing more. Probably my only hope is to find living relatives from that branch of the family, to see what they know.
Hi Michael-
Using the NY Fulton site, I'm finding some hits for Henry Vernon in cast lists in NY between 1873- 1889, does this match your information? I can post the sections of the articles and cast lists, if you are interested?
My Henry Vernon would've worked in the 1910s and 20s - but thanks for reminding me of the Fulton site.
