Hi all-
Something to try for all of us researching folks who don't always play by the rules in genealogy research, ie, appear regularly in census records, marriage records, and by their legal names. :)
Make a timeline, list the dates, places and names they were going by and see what you are missing, and think about where to start searching to fill in those holes. :)
In my case, I don't know know where or when William A Lavelle was born, when/where he was first married, in fact, I don't know where he was up until about 1873, when I think he is found on a Chicago directory under the name William A. Lavell, actor. That is the only directory I have ever seen him on. I have him on his son's birth record, his second marriage application, and his death record, as well as on the 1910 and 1920 census with his second wife Henrietta Rosch.
But I do have him(or think is him) on many ads, cast lists and articles, including an interview in which he gave a very colorful and detailed description of his biography, which I believe is a very nice tall tale, but not much else. So, I have to go by what I can find in various sources, and then see if I can back up those sources. :)
So, if you'd like to add a timeline for your folks, feel free to add them here, even if you aren't currently researching them. For a great example, check out Gene's thread on Jacques Marchais.
