Greetings. There are 3 major flavors of Richards in the US. There are English, French and German Richard people. Often the 3 groups spell their name the same way but not always. Many are familiar with the common English spelling of RICHARDS. The French variation rarely has an S on the end. If the family came straight from northern France such as Alsace Lorraine region there is a good chance the spelling will look more like REICHERT or REICHART. Lastly are the Germans. There the name was very strong on the "CH" part and often became REIGART or a variation of that. All these were "anglicized" as English speaking clerks wrote the names. Some may note I left out the Russian variety of Richard. That is because, for the most part, those families migrated through one of the previously mentioned areas and took up that version. There is a fairly large group of Russian Jewish Richard who fit this description.
My family fits into the French/German group from northern France. They came to Pennsylvania and eventually were called "Pennsylvania Dutch" I've been involved with Pennsylvania genealogy for over 30 years. I am the admin of the Rootsweb Richard mailing list. I enjoy discussing the family name but even more, I like to learn more about the times and places the Richard's lived in.
My Richard ancestor is Alex Richard/s b. <1850> he had Indian ancestry. He left Canada abt <1870>. His wife's name is Ophelia Lyons, also with Indian Ancestry. They lived in the Red River Settlement in Manitoba when it was still called the Northwest Territories. They moved to WI and then moved to various locations within the state looking for work.
I am sending a .pdf copy, of the descendants of our ancestral RICHARDS family.

I am looking for information on Richards from Massachusetts in the 1600s. I believe my GG gf Charles Richards was likely born there and moved to Nove Scotia where he married a Whalen. I found once a family tree on line that showed this branch of family but alas I can not find it again. Does anyone have any info on this family tree
DNA testing revealed that I was a Richards and confirmed my biological father 25 years after his death. The whole story is revealed in my new book, "Finding Family: My Search for Roots and the Secrets in My DNA." Preview it at Smashwords, which has all the eBook formats. Read reviews at Amazon, which has the printed book and the Kindle edition.
I have done my mtDNA...and I am the T2 haptogroup. Elizabeth Richards (abt 1803-abt 1870) was my 2nd great grandmother. She was born in Kentucky (probably Adair county) and Hickory county, Missouri. Her husband was Green Luttrell. Her parents Leonard Richards Jr. and Nancy Symes Northcott. Things get rather fuzzy here. Any cousins here?
I'm looking for information on my paternal great grandmother's lineage. Her name was Daisy Mae Richards and she was born in 1881 in Lackawanna, Pennsylvania (she married Wilmer Atkinson Tillinghast and died in 1965 in Santa Rosa, CA). Her father was Horace P. Richards -- I believe Horace Peter Richards was his full name, though I'm not 100% about the Peter -- and her mother was Clara Austin. She had a brother called Jay, and a sister named Lottie whose married surname was Philips. Both of these siblings remained in Pennsylvania after Daisy relocated to Sonoma County. That's about the gist of what I know. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you!
Our Richards family is traced to Robert G. Richards, born 1819 and in Cornwall England. He was married to Grace Tonkin. His son, Robert Richards, came to America on 1864 to the Calumet MI mines. He married Ellen Giffin in 1868 at Hancock MI. Ellen was from Antrim Ireland. They had 7 children together and eventually moved to Minnesota and farmed. I am looking for records on the first Robert G. Richards to verify his birth and death in England.
I'm new to this site. I'm hoping to get evidence for Randolph RICHARDS, born 1830, married Laura Louisa Greene 1857 in Cincinnati, OH and died 1870 in Cincinnati, OH. 1850 Census has his mother as Mary w/sisters Eveline and Caroline; I believe his mother was Mary Penn and his father was John Richards.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
