Trevor, No, I haven't considered the Joseph Wicks - I'll do some searching on that and see what I come up with.

As for the DNA, never thought of that avenue. I am not currently in contact with any of the Ricks but that doesn't mean I can't be. Let me feel out that line and let you know what I find out.

As a side note, I did have someone tell me once that there was a Ricks family that the father remarried and a Joseph didn't get along with stepmother so he left and that it could possibly be my Joseph. Those records are long gone on an old computer, so I don't remember who it was. Thanks for the suggestions.

Sarah Jane Wasson would have been only 15 when she married. Have you considered the Joseph Wicks born about 1826 in the Ohio 1850 census (a long shot I know)? Failing any documentary evidence you may wish to consider a DNA test. It looks like Francis Marion Ricks had several sons so you may be able to find a male Ricks from your line who would be willing to test on your behalf. The aim would be to match with other Ricks and leapfrog your brickwall with Joseph. I can advise if you need help with that.

Trevor, Yes, I have some dates. Joseph was born c1826 and the 1860 census says in Ohio. The earliest I have found him is 1851 Iowa Census and he was in Guthrie Co, Iowa. He married 3 Dec 1854 to Sarah Jane Wasson in Gurthrie Co, IA. He and Sarah only had one son, Francis Marion Ricks who is my Great Grandfather so I have information down from there. Joseph died a year after Francis was born so I don't have any family stories down from there. That's about the full extent of what I have, other than his military service and burial at Mound City National Cemetery in Indiana.

Chris, Do you have any dates and places please? Are you in contact with any Ricks males that you know descend from your Joseph Ricks?

My Great Great Grandfather was Joseph Ricks who died in the Civil War. I have been unable to find anything on his parents/siblings and back. Any information would be greatly appreciated!!
