Hello everyone, I'm doing some research on my grandmother: Sadie Isabella Sands [m. Albert William Van Horn; had four children], she was born in Newburyport, Massachusetts on 29 Sept.1920 and died in Orange, Florida on 23 Dec. 1991. Her parents (as far as I have been able to find) were David Pike Sands and Sadie Ann Merrow.
David Pike Sands was born 6 Sept 1870 in Newburyport, MA and died 1 March 1923, his parents were James Sands and Isabella Pike.
According to an 1880 census for Newburyport, Essex, Massachusetts, the following information for James Sands:
n. James Sands b. abt 1827 in Ireland. Spouse: Isabella His father and mother were both born in Ireland. His occupation is listed as working in a Cotton Mill. Aside from Isabella [b. abt 1827] the following children are listed:
May E. Sands; age 22.
George A. Sands; age 20.
John Sands; age 19.
Annie Sands; age 17.
Ellen I. Sands; age 14.
Walter C. Sands; age 12.
David P. Sands; age 9.
According to a 1900 census for Salisbury, Essex, Massachusetts;
n. James Sands b. Mar 1823 [age: 77] bp: Ireland. Immigration year: 1839. Father's birthplace: Scotland. Mother's birthplace: Ireland.
Spouse: Isabella. Married: 1851. Now her birthdate is changed to Sep 1833; age 66. This census says that Isabella had 9 children; 7 living.
The only child listed as still living with them is Ellen I. Sands, now aged 34.
I'm still looking, but hopefully other people have these Sands in their lines!
