Welcome Bob! Who are some of your people? When your people emigrated, where did they settle?

My name is Bob Scales and my Scales line originates in England, mostly in the county of Hertfordshire.  Happy to hear from anyone who has connections there. Will send link to my Ancestry.Com tree.

Still attempting to find information regarding William Elijah Scales, my great grandfather. He was born in Stendal, Pike County, Indiana, April 5, 1870. I believe he would have died between 1910-1926. If anyone has any information, I would love to hear from you! And SCOTT SCALES, I would love to hear from you as well.

I am a cousin of Richard (Dick) Norwood.  I am a direct Descendant of Carlos Scales (Grandfather) John Scales (Grandfather)  My father was James V. Scales, his father was Lonnie C. Scales, his father was Carlos Scales and his father was John Scales all from Union County, South Carolina.  I was born in Union County South Carolina.  My research leads me to believe that John Scales came from Rockingham County North Carolina.  John Scales father I believe to be Joseph Scales of Rockingham County, NC.  I will do a DNA to make sure this is the right line of Scales.  I do know these Scales are all kin to me and came into (Va) this country from England

Scott, you mentioned you know a little about Ed's brother William. Would you mind sharing this information with me? Thanks!

Hi, Scott,

I have a hand-written letter from Thomas Jackson Scales to my grandmother, Lillian Scales Botkin. It has some family history in it. I also have a letter written to Lillian (my grandmother) by her Uncle Ed, which I imagine is your great-grandfather. I don't know anything about Sallie Burdette, so I can't help you there. Edward's brother William; is that William Elijah? If it is like I'm hoping, I REALLY want to share information.

Oh, on my July 16, 2009 post, I stated that William Elijah Scales is my gg-grandfather. SORRY!!! I put one g in too many! William Elijah Scales is my great-grandfather, Thomas Jackson Scales is my great-great grandfather, which makes us 3rd cousins.

Reading these posts, I guess it would be good to share my Scales family information.

I'm descended from John Scales of Union County, SC.  I have never worked back from him successfully.  He first married Susannah Foster and then married Sallie Vaughan, a much younger woman, with whom he had his last child,

Carlos Felda Scales, b. 1846, who married Elminer Brown and had

William Foster Scales, who married Amanda Harris and had

Lois Martha Ann Scales, who married Ludwell Crawley Pearson and had

my mother.

I've done a lot of research in Union County, SC, and would be very happy to share all I know.

Hi.  Thomas Jackson Scales is my gg grandfather.  He had a son named Edward, who had a son named Alpha (who is my grandfather) with a lady named Sallie Burdette.  It is not clear if Edward and Sallie were actually married, but if they were, it was only for a brief period.

I know a little bit about Edward's brother William, and I know a pretty good deal about Edward and on back from him.  I would love to learn more about Sallie Burdette's family.

If I can help anyone with anything, let me know.  Hopefully, we can share some good information.

Katherine, I guess that means we're 5th cousins. Pretty cool, right?
