Hello Group, I have the name of Alexandrina LOW(E) in my tree - she was born about 1782 (not sure where), probably Edinburgh,(see below) and married Alexander HODGE at Crail, Fife in 1802. The 1851 census (as per Ancestry.uk) records them thus:
Alexander Hodge, age 84, (1767); father in law, living in Barony, Lanarkshire, occup: Lalo? of Customs. Wife Alexandrina, 70, mother in law, born Edinburgh, Midlothian; living with daughter Agnes 47, born Crail, and her husband Thomas Robertson in Barony. Thomas is 41 (1810), a corn factor employing 3 men, born Glasgow. 1 female servant.
I have recorded 4 children for this couple:
Alexander, b. 1802, Dundee, Angus and d. 1857, Port Stanley, Elgin, Ont. Canada.
John, b. 1805, Crail, Fife
Agnes, b. 1808, Crail, Fife
Thomas, b. 1813, Crail, Fife, emigrated to Hamilton, Ont. Canada 1832 and married Caroline WHITE at St.Thomas, Ont. 1843. Died 1896,Chicago, Cook, Ill.
My interest is in the WHITE connection, but I'm posting this in case others are interested.
I have a Grizzel (or Grace) Lowe on my family tree. Census records indicate that she was born c.1802 in the Parish of Old Monkland, Lanarkshire. She married William Donaldson in 1825 in Boness, West Lothian and died 9 December 1877 in Slamannan, Stirlingshire.
Her death certificate shows that her parents were William Lowe & Ann Sneddon but I have not found any other evidence of this couple and no likely baptism for Grizzel/Grace.
One of her children was named Peter Low Donaldson (b.1833) which may be a clue to the name of one of her relatives.
