My great grandfather Hugh William LEE was born in Scotland and according to an unreadable photocopy someone gave me, he was born 30 Nov 1842 in Kirkhill.  I googled Kirkhill and found out its a village in the county of Inverness.  I do not know where the document I have came from but it is titled  30/11/1841 LEE, HUGH (O.P.R. Births 103/ 0020 0089 Kirkhill).  I would like to find this document online if possible and get a better copy of it, but I don't know where to begin looking for Scottish records.   I have found a number of sites that do surname search but each time I search LEE in Scotland I get no results.  Why, is it an uncommom name?

If you go to www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk you will be able to view the Old Parish Record of his birth. On the website's home page you can enter LEE and find out how common the name is and what records are available. Hope this helps
Ruy, You'll find the record about Hugh William Lee on 'ScotlandsPeople.gov.uk". Donald McIlhagga.
Try Scotlandspeople. They have on-line copies of Old Parish Records. This is the website of the Scottish Registry Office. It will cost you a fee for credits but is invaluable for Scottish research.
