wow 15 new members today, welcome all. Please take a moment to let us know what you are here for, so we can be sure this group goes in the direction its members want.

Today I am going to work on the home page for the group and get it set up for downloading. Some of us have digital designs we would like to share and I also want to create a space to display the pages you are sharing in a better way than this structure allows.

I don't know a lot about it myself but I can fill you in on the Serif Company.
Serif is an English software development company based in Nottingham. The products they produce are PagePlus (desktop publishing), PhotoPlus (digital image editing), DrawPlus (drawing) Webplus (web design), Digital Scrapbook Artist (scrapbooking) and quite a few others. All their products are moderately priced and I have PagePlus, PhotoPlus and DrawPlus. I began using these last year when I wanted to prepare for publishing 165 letters written by my ancestors. I found them to very good and the thing that helped me was the fact they have excellent forums which are available for people to get help when using their programs. I had had no experience of desktop publishing but I was able to take the letters from where I had transcribed them into Word to a book in 6 months.
I have not had experience of Digital Scrapbook Artist but is had good reviews here: http://scrapbooking-software-review.toptenreviews.com/
In case people are wondering I can assure them I have no tie-up at all with Serif. I am just a very happy user of their products.

You bring up a very good point. I also am still kicking myself for not asking my elders things that I so easily could have found out from them. You are right that the scrapbooks will get the younger ones more interested, as will personal stories. My grandkids appreciate my interest in genealogy, but don't share it. However, when I discover a particularly interesting story they will sit down and listen to me tell it with real interest. I am sure that when they get older this will translate into an interest in the rest of it.

I think that's a good point, Delbert. My family are (sometimes) interested in the photos and the stories. That's one reason I started doing some scrapbooking.

Linking scrapbooks and genealogy sounds like a good way to peak the interest of some of the younger generation. The family tree is generally of little interest to many of the young people. It is a dry subject like learning dates in history! Later in life they wonder who they are, often too late to ask the grandparents the questions about their past.
Adding the photos and events to the family history might help to bring it all to life.
With four adult children, a lot of grandchildren and great grandchildren means this old chap must do things digitally if they are all expected to get a peek!

I have created digital scrapbooks using Picaboo, Ancestry.com, and Shutterfly.
