Please find us at Just Genealogy or Live Roots. There are several people with lots of goodies and links for newcomers. If there is nobody there, you can touch the phone booth and either send a message or ask to have someone paged to come, if they are in-world. Monday afternoons, 4:30-6:30 SL Time (Pacific time) is a good time, since there are usually several people around who can answer questions, but there are several genealogists in-world much of the time who try to be patient and kind.

The specific answer to your question is, you teleport. You find the new location either in Search or on the world map, and click the teleport button. If the distance is short, you can fly, but most people teleport (or tp, as the abbreviation goes.)

I personally think the newbie areas are terrible and I recommend getting out of them as soon as you've collected the info and freebies to be had there.

Is there any tutorials in the newbie area? I'm stuck in one and can't read the languages. lol

Believe me, we each had to have a few people take us under their wings to help us get the hang of it. Once you do, it is a LOT of fun. I spent the last two hours talking with Illya from www.LiveRoots.com. He also built a presence in Second Life.

Hi James, your simple question has a variety of answers:

(1) If you have a landmark (LM) to a location in your inventory, you can click on it to teleport to the location.

(2) You can click on the SEARCH button on the bottom of the screen, then the Places tab, and search for places to visit.

(3) Someone/Something can give you (or you can read on a web page) a SLURL (second life URL) that you can click on to teleport.

(4) A friend can offer you a TP (teleport) to their location.

(5) You can walk/fly there (if you know where you are going). Using the map can help you stay on the correct path.

(6) You can purchase a vehicle (cars, helicopters, etc). to get around...

We've been tutoring and helping both here and in Second Life. I would like to know whether these questions are still open today, Wednesday, or if people are getting along. I or we don't want to ignore your questions but since we can't tell who is who, it's a little hard to know whether we've seen you and how much help we've been.

No need to disclose your SL identity, please just keep us posted on how you're doing and additional questions.

If you can't figure out how to teleport by yourself, ask one of your friends via an instant message (IM). We can "send a limo" (offer a teleport) for you to the location we are, or send you a landmark to use.
