You did not say where you got your marriage data. By the date it must have been in Sweden. Did they have any children born in Sweden? Do you have any more details? For tracking people in Sweden you should have the Parish they came from. 

 

Can someone out there search EmiBas for these people? 

 

If Emibas does not come up with them, you may have to search backward from immigration and naturalization reocords.

 

Origins in Sweden of Skaraborg and Dalarna does not narrow it down enough. These two areas are some distance apart... it is like being from Boston or Pittsfield. In wiki.FamilySearch.org, entering Skaraborg Dalarna brought me to a description of Swedish counties or Län... which you should read.

marriage date came form u.s.census data.  No parish info - not  really certain of cities or area but one close match in ancestry did have the Skaraborg, Dalarna areas mentioned.  Yes thanks, have seen the Swedish counties discussed. Per family members, all children were born in US. The most accurate information seems to be the birthdates which are repeated in various records.   I just requested thier marriage info from Massachusetts which I hope includes some Sweden origin detail. Thank you for your comments.

Does the above help me get to more detail anywhere about Emma C. Carlson birthplace in Sweden?  This listing appears to be closest match to what we know about her..

It shows that this Emma came from Örebro Örebro Län, Sverige which is a city in central Sweden about 150 km west of Stockholm. My ancestors came from near Örebro.  This entry gives the city and county so it may be rather specific. In 1862 Örebro had only one parish in the city but it was fairly large.

Göteborg would be the most common port of departure from Sweden.

Did your Emma travel separate from her husband (or husband to be)?

We are not sure - their immigation dates vary depending on which census you look at.   They both showed 1891 as immigration date on the 1900;  1910 showed August coming in 1888 and Emma  in 1891.  Frustratiing of course when there are these inconsistencies but such is much of the US census info.  I have gotten May 1864 as Emma's birthdate from yet other sources which seemed to be matches.  Family members over the years have said they heard they came from Goteborg.  I had opportunity to travel there once in 1996 for a soccer tournament. It felt kind of strange to think I was possibly the only decendant of those two people who had ever returned to Sweden..
