Does anybody have any idea of where a good place to look for early TN wills is?
In particular, I'm looking for the will of Roger Barton, d. 4 Jan 1822. According to the Anderson County Court Minutes his will was proven in Oct 1822. The court minute abstract I found only named his executors. I talked to the Anderson County historian and she told me that (1) she didn't have any wills before 1830 and (2) the only thing she had relating to a will for Roger was a statement to the court that his witnesses saw him sign it.
A little about Roger....he arrived in TN about 1799 with his wife Margaret and a considerable chunk of his family. His son, Hugh, became a doctor and remained close by; his son, Gilbreath, was a postmaster and ended up in Marshall Co., AL; and 2 of his daughters married Croziers (John and Arthur), they also remained close by. He had some other children (2 I think), but I don't know anything about them. The family was Presbyterian.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
