was one of Captain William Sadler Turner's early rangers in eastern Texas. His service was from Jan. 1, 1836 to March. 16, 1836. Samuel was also an original landowner from the Burnet Grant at what is now Palestine, Texas in Anderson County.
Samuel married Phebe Parker one of Daniel Parker's daughters. Phebe was a first cousin to Cynthia Ann Parker who was kidnapped during an Indian raid at Parker's fort in May 1836 and became the mother of Quanah Parker last of the Comanche chiefs. Samuel married a second time, after Phebe died, to Lettie Mariah Garner. Their daughter, Ann Lee Wells (coincidently enough), was my maternal great grandmother.
