Hi Ya'll,

I just joined the group and am always interested in Texas history.  My little slice begins with Samuel G. Wells (gg-grandfather) who obtained a grant of the original Burnett colony in 1834.  That portion encompassed the current city of Palestine and a good segment of Anderson County.

Samuel first married Phebe Parker, the daughter of Elder Daniel Parker (a prominent member of the Provisional Government) and first cousin to Cynthia Ann Parker, in 1834.  He also rode with William T. Sadler's Mounted Rangers in early 1836.

Jump to current day, I am a displaced native Texan living in the Midwest and try to get back whenever I can.  So that's my story in a large nutshell.  You can see some of my work at http://www.familytumbleweed.com.

WANTED, Help transcribing books about Texas for http://www.TrailsToThePast.org.

 

I have several ebooks about Texas (or a particular area of Texas) that I would like to transcribe / format for posting on the Texas county pages at Trails To The Past.  All of these books are in the ‘public domain’ (not copyrighted) and were written in the late 1800’s or early 1900’s. 

 

The books contain history about the state, Texas counties and cities as well as biographies (hundreds of them) about those who were instrumental in the formation of Texas as we know it today.

 

I am currently working on “Types of Successful Men of Texas” by Lewis E Daniell.  I have completed a bio on R. M. Page of Tarrant Co., TX (http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~txtarrtp/biographies-p.html) and I am working on a bio about Oran Milo Roberts (17^th governor of Texas).

 

I am looking for volunteers who would like to assist in the transcribing/formatting of these books.  No pressure.  You can work as much or as little as your schedule permits.  If you think you would be interested in helping, please contact me at charlie.vines@gmail.com.

The team at GenealogyTrails.com spends time throughout the year researching and transcribing data for different states. All data that comes in is posted to the
appropriate county/state. During the first three weeks of December we are
focusing on Texas (the entire state). I currently host Dallas, Hunt, and
Lubbock Counties within the state. If anyone would be interested in posting any data related to Texas (or anywhere else for that matter), please forward it to me orto the appropriate county host and we will work to get it posted.

I am currently working on researching my mother's maternal grandfather, Calvin Bracy (sometimes spelled Bracey). He was born in between 1865-1870, lived in various TX counties: Brazoria, Harris, San Jacinto, and Walker. What I really want to find out is who his parents were.  I already know his mother was Lena Cline (Kline) possibly born in the 1830s, not sure if my great grandfather was her only child. I need to find records that state his parents names.  He was married four times: 1) Eliza Wright; 2) Lizzie Robinson; 3) Julia Harris, and 4) Sally Harrison.

I am trying to trace my ggg grandmother from Texas, The info I have is that on the marrage document on 3 july 1875 she was Jennie Spence married William E Rees in Galveston, Texas. 1878 she had a son Charles Wharton Rees (no birth record) between then and 1881 she emigrated to Swansea, Uk and listed her birth place as Illinois, USA, abt 1856.  William Rees - Custom officer born Swansea, Uk abt 1852.  Charles W birth galveston, Texas abt 1875. I cannot find any other records of them in america other than marrage and that only states their names. Any info or where I can get info greatly appriciated as i have hit a brick wall. Many Thanks and if i can help anybody I will.

I was going over the postings and I see where Jammie stated he was denied access to a public record by the district clerk's office. This is one of my pet peeves. County gov't are subject to the Texas Open Records Act as the records are PUBLIC information, maintained with tax dollars from the....PUBLIC. There are records which understandably are exempted.

I don't know if Jammie ever got to view the records but if anyone else is having this problem, there is a way to obtain copies if you are willing to stay the course.

Here is an online page about "The Public Information Act" , including how to obtain records...

You can always get the record info from the index (book & page, etc) and ask for a copy. If they refuse because it is filed away...then go home and submit a Open Records Act Request for the document.
