Well, I live in Montgomery County and am willing to do research for anyone needing it for this county. I am also working on the BEARDEN, BATES, SAPP and associated lines that are mostly located in Shelby County.

My oldest Texas line goes back to Adeline Burditt, born ca 1830, who was living near Austin in Travis Co. at the time of the 1870 census. In that census she is listed as having been born in TX, which would have placed her family in the state fairly early. Adeline married Aaron Hancock at Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Austin on September 16, 1866. This line later migrated to Dewitt Co, Washington Co. (Brenham), and ultimately Jefferson Co. Hancock, Burditt and Bell are old Texas names, and I suspect that these Afro-Texan lines might be associated with settlers in the early Texas colonies.

Hi all! It was just this year that I discovered I have roots in Texas. I finally broke through a brick wall (it turned out it was because my ancestor had altered the spelling of his name as an adult) and tracked three of my ancestor's brothers to Mexican Texas. My ancestor and his siblings (the ones that moved to Texas and the rest) were all born in Kentucky. His brothers - David, Jesse, and Allen Halderman (their surname sometimes recorded as Holderman or Holdeman in Texas) moved to Austin's Colony and settled in Bastrop, Texas. One (Allen) died unmarried in the war with Mexico, one (Jesse) died (seemingly without children, at least as far as I've found so far) in 1850, and the final one (David) lived a long life with a wife (Candis Thompson) and many children, moving to DeWitt County after his brother Jesse died. Jesse's widow (Harriet Craft) seems to have been from a very prominent family in Bastrop County, as I've found a rather overwhelming number of records on the Crafts of Bastrop. She remarried, to a Campbell(?) Taylor, and they continued to reside in Bastrop, having at least three children. If anyone is researching any of these families or these regions/times, I'd be very interested to share tips and/or info. Thanks!

Greetings from Gotebo OK, The Goat Ropin' Capital of the World! (More goats than people) :o) I am researching these lines: Hendricks, Wells, and Spraggins. If anyone is living in Tarrant Co. and do a search on Harrison Gill Hendricks, Sr. I would appreciate it. Am especially interested in any info regarding an incident where he supposedly shot a freedman. He was a big shot attorney, state rep, etc. in the late 1800s and early 1900s.

Khathu, I have often wondered that too, as well as the Daughters of the American Revolution. I haven't checked into that yet though.

My g-g-grandmother, Jalie Cooper is on the 1920 census in a small county named Navarro. She and my g-g-grandpa, Sherman were married with 7 kids: Opal, Eva Lee, Carroll, Myrtle, Minnie, Lometa, and Milton.and I am looking for info on Jalie's mom. See, JalieCarroll-Cooper was 1/2 black, 1/2 German and immigrated here from what I am told. Jalie's father was named: Walter Carroll, her mother, I can't find. Jalie was born abbrox. 1888. Thanks!
