Just joined this group. My gg grandfather served with Deaf Smith 1837-1838. Have letter referencing this as well as land grants. As I understand it, Deaf Smith retired after the Republic was won and was called back up for service to help guard the Republic's borders against Mexico and the Indians. I'm trying to link this outfit to the early Texas Rangers and would appreciate any help.

I'll be glad to help anyone researching genealogy in Texas, although native born, I'm not an historian, but still willing.

Hi everyone. My roots are deeply embedded in Texas soil. Can't wait to share with everyone. Today is my first day, but I'll be back. Have to get my page a little more organized.

Tammy, the records are owhere nline for some counties. This is where services such as Ancestry.com and footnote.com come in handy.. Have you looked here:

So, for Tx marriage records before 1966 one has to go through the county clerk's office? The records aren't available online?

I am a 5th generation Texan and a member of the Daughters of the Republic of TX. My Castleberry line came to TX about 1835 from AL/GA. My lines that came to TX from AL include, Caddel/l, Kelly, Looper, Tidmore, Phillips. I am new to this website. Looks promising!
