Texas is one of the easiest states for conducting research. There are pros & cons.

PROS
Access to most all vital records were sold to LDS "weigh back when" and that is why you can find so many Texas records online.

CONS
Each county can set their policy for access to documents, so there is no standardization in access and fees. What you can get in 1 county for a $1 will cost you $11-20 in another county. Some counties won't allow uncertified copies while others will...I hate that about Texas records for genealogical purposes.

I don't live in Texas; I live in Missouri. However, I have many Van Every, Denyer, and Hartley ancestors and kin in Texas from the 1840s to present day - mostly in the vicinity of El Paso (Fort Hancock) and Austin (San Marcos, Caldwell).

I'm so thrilled to find a Texas group ... this is going to be interesting. Texas is the starting place for all my family history (Brinlee, Norman, Moore, and Lewis in Dallas, Fannin, Collin, and Baylor counties).

I'm happy to have found Genealogy Wise and Texas History Hunters. My dad, James Harvey Willis Treadwell, was born in Galveston in 1914. My grandfather, Willis Oliver Treadwell, was born in Kenedy, Texas and died in the Galveston Storm of 1915. His dad was Oliver Goldsmith Treadwell who fought with Company F, McCord's Texas Cavalry in the Civil War. And his mom was Arcanie Elizabeth Watkins Treadwell, who moved to Texas with her family from Georgia after the Civil War.
