Looking for any info regarding my wife's gggrandfather, James Irvin Thompson. He immigrated to Canada about 1849 with his bride, Dinah Bryon(Brien) I believe his father was Archibald. My brother in laws DNA indicates a number of matches in the USA and it makes me wonder if a sibling of  James immigrated to the US.

My g.grandfather Marcus Lafayette Thompson and his twin brother William Albert were born in January of 1831 in Decatur, Morgan County Alabama. Their father, name unknown, was killed in an argument with a tenant sometime after they were conceived and 1840 when they and their mother show up in the Morgan County census living with their stepfather Andrew "Andy" Norwood. In the 1850 census in Harrison County Texas the twins are still with Norwood and their mother, age 19. Marcus came west to California in the gold rush and William stayed. He died in the Civil war in 1862. Looking for names of Marcus' and William's parents, my 2nd g. Grandparents. Ray Thompson ray@jp4u2.com Thanks in advance for any help.

The facts.... My mother, Agnes Louise Thompson was the daughter of

Frederick Oliver Thompson and Anna Stroh Cram, Son of

H. Devere Thompson and Alice Beulah Cooper, son of

Arnold Pope Thompson and Ruth Hill.

The history.... Arnold Pope Thompson is one of my brickwall, but there is family lore coming along with him. It was said that his parents were married in Stonington, Connecticut, and for a wedding present they were given a covered wagon and was told to go west... They went as far as Madison County, New York. My great grandfather was born in 1844 in Bridgewater, and was listed in the 1850 census with his parents, Arnold and Ruth, sister, Esther, and his maternal grandmother Esther Shepherd/Shepard.  Arnold died in 1856, and Ruth disappeared from the census for 1860.. DeVere and a friend, Oliver Perkins, left Bridgewater in the early 1860's as teenagers and eventually settled in Des Moines, Iowa, and stayed till the end of their lives. I've recently discovered that my gr-gr- grandmother, Ruth, remarried before 1860 to a Oliver D. Perkins, the father of previous mentioned Oliver, so the boys were step-brothers and it seems to be the  best of friends thru out their lives. They were all listed in the 1860 census with Oliver D. Perkins as the head of household.

I've written to the Bridgewater town historian some twenty years ago, and I was refered to her son who was into genealogy. We communicated for several years, and made a possible tie to the Thompson family in Connecticut. I was always wondering about the "Pope" in Arnold's name, And I suggested the Arnold was possibly name after someone who was a friend of the family or possible a doctor who was at his birth. He discovered that there was a Doctor by the Name of Arnold Pope, and what it made it more interesting that he was married to Hannah Thompson, who was the daughter of Elihu and Desire (Palmer)Thompson of Burlington, Otsego county, New York, whose origins is of Stonington.  Elihu and Desire had at least 3 known sons, Joseph, William, and Samuel. Unfortunately I haven't found any connection to any of them as of yet.  I do need to make a trip to New York someday, which should be enjoyable whatever happens. all for now. Thom

My line of Thompson's are from eastern Long Island. the earliest I have info on was William Thompson 1749-1782 and his wife, Martha Drake 1746-1816. They were my GrGrGrGr Grandparents. I've only recently began this journey.

Hello
My Thompsons are from South Carolina. They go back to the late 1700's. Names of my Grandfathers are: Joel B Thompson Jr. born 1840 in Madison County GA Married to Amanda Roberts. Joel Thompson Sr Born 1793 in Madison GA but was in one of three counties that later became Madison. His wife was Elizabeth Smith.
I hope to be able to trace the family further back to see how they came to be in GA. So far I have been unable to locate them in the land lottery but am sure they will pop up somewhere.
Connie
