Capt. John Underhill was sent by England to train Colonial men as soldiers to fight in the Pequot war. He would retire to Long Island and later become a Quaker at Oyster Bay. I imagine by now you can take the family back to 1250 and earlier. Richard de Underhille.

I have Underhill ancestors from Wolverhampton/Staffordshire who date back to the c. 1423. The oldest ancestory I can date back to is William Underhill who married Joan Stanley of Bromwich. The last Underhill in my family was Phoebe Underhill who married Thomas Hawley and moved to New York in 1826.  I am not sure if there's a connection, but it might help.  It is always fun to find more info.

Thanks,

Lindsay
