I am attempting to figure out exactly what may have happened to my grt-grt uncle Alvah Howard. He was born in 1846, raised in Amity Twnsp, Livingston Co., IL. He joined the Civil War 10/4/1864 for one year. He was in Comp G, 36th IL Infantry.

I ordered his military records and the last thing I know of him was he was mustered out in New Orleans on 10/8/1865.

The last 2 records are from July and Aug 1865 says, "detailed as guard for paymaster in Texas" then on 10/8/1865 the record only states he was "recruited 11/20/1864 at Pulaski, TN, mustered out and discharged furnished in New Orleans, LA." then under that it says "drafted"

I can not find him in the census after 1860. I do know that he fell ill for a while while in the war, but it would seem that he survived the war.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Rick
