Michael...Kevin Frye has an excellent web site, "Andersonville Civil War Prison."
http://www.angelfire.com/ga2/Andersonvilleprison/ There is lots of great information there. He has also included a copy of the original Atware Death List as well as an 'Easy to Read Atware List.' Lots of information there to explore.

I am assuming Eli G Baker was taken to Andersonville prison, since I found other members of the Seventh CT were sent there. Does anyone have the POW list for the place?

Anthony....I sent mine in but I know you can call and make the request.
Just make sure you have as much in as possible.
The more you give them the easier and quicker it is.

Anthony, you are welcome!

The Plattsburgh, NY enlistment record Kevin provided certainly looks ripe for follow-up.

Not to muddy the waters, but there is another intriguing record for a Henry E. Huntington of Tinmouth, Vermont. Enlisted on 27 Aug 1862; Co. B, 14th Infantry, Vermont. Organized 21 Oct 1862; mustered out 30 Jul 1863 at Brattleburg, VT. Fought on 03 Jul 1863 at Gettysburg, PA.

Do you know if your ancestor had any connections to Vermont prior to arriving in New York?

Continued good luck with your search!

What name is it were looking for? Is it Henry Huntington? If so, he is not one who is listed as being here. There are 130 prisoners here at Andersonville noted as being captured at Bermuda Hundred , Virginia. Dates of Capture run between 5/20/1864 to 11/17/1864.

Civilwardata.com shows

Anthony. Here are the 3 Henry Huntington's Civil War pension cards.
These might help with your research. If you find out where the units were formed it could help narrow down your Henry's location.

This Henry looks like he was transferred from another regiment.

This Henry has a middle initial of J....also if you look at the remarks section at the bottom of the card it shows he belonged to another regiment at one time.

This Henry has a middle initial of E.

Hope these help you.

"I looked up Bermuda Hundred but it only had info up to May 1864 and he was captured in June. Guess I'll have to see if I can get a library card since I'm out of town for a bit and have to actually read an entire book."

Since we are researching the same GGGgf I can add what I know. The Bermuda Hundred was actually a series of small engagements over a long period of time. Looking through a book of old military telegraphs the Seventh was in a bad situation June 2nd, the regiment was split up in heavy fighting with confederates and many of them surrounded. I believe 74 soldiers were taken as POW one of them was Eli. So between June and Sept he was a POW, I am not sure what prison, I am working on that, while trying to get records from VA.

Greetings Anthony,

Do you know if your Gillman Annis ever resided in Michigan?

In the 1920 Census, Buchanan Twp., Berrien County, Michigan, there is a Gillman E. Annis, age 39, enumerated with his wife and widowed father, Henry J., age 78, born New York.

A search of the 1890 Veterans Schedule shows a Henry J. Huntington residing in Wilmington, Essex County, New York, service recorded as Private in Company C, 17th Regiment, NY Infantry, enlisted 1863, mustered out 1865, total service 2 years.

In the 1880 Census there is a Henry Huntington, age 38, occupation: house carpenter, enumerated in Wilmington, Essex County, NY with his wife, Ella and three children, Amos, Clara, and Guy.

I hope this information provides some potential leads.

That is amazing Katie. I was wondering how much information i would learn if I ordered my ggg grandfather's records. He was captured and aft a couple of months he died, supposedly killed. I know his 2nd wife received benefits along with a gentleman who was caring for my ggg grandfather's son from his first wife. The first wife abandoned their son before they where divorced. Maybe I'm using that word a bit harshly but he was almost 2, a baby. I would love to have someone order the records for me as my holiday gift but other than me everyone thinks it is a foolish gift to wish for. Glad the archives sent you further info for free. That was very nice of the.
