If you found a grave-marker in his hometown it is probable that it is a symbolic stone placed in sort of a way of closure. This was very common during the war for those who died far from home, or buried in unmarked graves, and was very common for those who died here at Andersonville. Unfortunately he is probably buried as unknown. Im not familiar with Bermuda Hill in much details but I am sure you can google much. Why Petersburg?? Remember that Petersburg was a siege situation and Union forces were there quite some time. he could have been picked off by a sniper... Wounded and died, or may have been brought there sick where medicines were available but died from sickness. You would think he would be in a marked grave but often the wooden headboards were removed of the writing on them wore away before any attempt to remove for reinterment became available. I can give lots of ideas but we will probably never know what happened.

Hello Kevin,

Wow, thanks, now I'm really confused with my family line. I know Eli's son John moved in with a Sherman Family but there wasn't a David. The head of house was an older gentleman so I'll have to see if David was Sherman's son.

I was following a Sarah at first but my 2 cousins insisted her name was Jane. Now I have to try to find Sarah again.

I found Eli's grave stone. Do you think he is truly buried there or left in VA? Is there a way to find out?

Can you tell me the history of Bermuda Hill and why he died in Petersburg? So far no one has been able to tell me why he would have died in Petersburg.

Thanks bunches,
Spirit
