Yes, that is heart breaking...my Civil War ancestor died from the measles, which has been nearly eradicated in this day and age.

I have two Civil War veterans in my family that I know about.  Both from Maine.  I sent to NARA and got a compiled service record about the one I knew nothing about except that he died in in Alexandria Virginia in the hospital because he contracted Typhoid Fever.  Being the nosey person I am I had to look it up and it was caused by the bacteria Salamonella.  Just think there would be a good chance of curing it if he had it today.  All because of the terrible sanitary conditions in the camps then.  Imagine sending your son to war and losing him not to battle wounds but to disease which could have been treated today.  Heart breaking.

My great great grandfather was one of the many that were killed at the Battle of Franklin Tenn. His name was Toliver Taylor. HIs father was George Taylor and there is a memorial about it on the find a grave picture of George Taylor that is really a memorial to Toliver. I am almost done working on my tree and have many many other relitives that were in the civil war and the rev war and the War of 1812. I want to take the other ones names and find out what group they were in etc. Some were even prisoners of war but I have no information on them Sallie Hood OH Toliver was a confedrate and he fought with S, Carolina.

I have very little on them except the outfits they were with...they are ancestors of a friend of mine who just started researching them...she gave me all of the info I have, so anything will be appreciated!

All in the 7th Tennessee Cavalry  USA

Isaac and Elisha were both prisoners at Andersonville

My husbans's g g grandfather was with the 19th Ohio for three months, and then reenlisted with the 115th Ohio for three years.  While doing family research last year we found his cremains still being kept in the Oregon State hospital, had them shipped to us, and held a reenactment and funeral for him in his hometown.  If it wasn't for all the genealogy sites and groups like this one, he could still be sitting in Oregon and unclaimed.  UNBELIEVEABLE!
