My great grand parents arrived in England in 1887. They became John and Elizabeth Williams and trying to find their real names and where they came from in Lithuania has been a search of many years. Thank goodness for the computer age!
As with all unknowns, myths and half remembered memories take on a life of their own. None more so than family lore. Long held beliefs can be wrong and learning to let go and just face facts is very hard. Sifting fact from fiction in genealogy is always difficult; when you add in a foreign country and no documents it is almost impossible. That is why I started this group to try and put together some sort of history of the Valincius family and find connections to other people who know more than me.
So far we think my great grandparents were Stanislaus Juozapas Walinczius (Walinjus on children's Birth Certificate) His wife's maiden name sounded like 'Berterscha' (phonetic spelling by English clerk). They came from the Suwalki Gubernia probably near to Kalvarija. Originally the family may have come from Valinciskiai. Those are the bare bone upon which I would like to put flesh. Any offers?
This group does not have any discussions yet.
