Thank you for posting those Dutch sites and for your comments. Mum is Dutch and its her family I am researching, however she left when she was very young and the family lost all contact with their Dutch relatives. We therefore have no real knowledge of the naming traditions and what the names actually mean and which names are similar variants etc. I did travel back a few years ago and actually managed to locate some relatives so I really must check the sites again for any additions of new data etc.

This means do not discount the information because of spelling of the surname. I have seen many examples of surname spellings that change 3 times or more within consecutive generations of dutch families.

a good place to start would be GENLIAS.nl and CBG.nl websites for information.

Here is a van den Broeck family arms from Belium area which use to be part of the Netherlands!
