I am looking for information on my g/g/grandfather, John Alsa Vinson, who resided in Randolph County, Alabama in 1860.  The census listed his date of birth at 1819, but I have another date of 1824.  He "diappeared" before the 1870 Census.  I believe he died in the Civil War, but cannot find definitive proof of this.  Several John Vinson's from Alabama were in the Civil War, and more than one of them died as a result. The other possibility is that he left the family during/after the war.  I do have a land purchase record where he bought land in Randolph County in January 1859.  Several other Vinson's purchased land on the same day, and I believe they were siblings and/or cousins.

His wife, Eliza Stephens Vinson remarried George Peterman and they are both buried at Liberty Church of Christ in Randolph County.  I cannot locate the burial location of John Vinson, although most of his family stayed in Randolph County.

John's son Doctor Franklin Vinson was my g/grandfather.  He and my great-grandmother, Sarah Jane McCullers Vinson are buried at New Harmony Christian Church on the Randolph/Clay County line.  I have located relatives of many of Doctor Franklin's children - Newton was my grandfather; I cannot locate Henry or a family to associate with him, and I cannot locate the girl's in the family other than Claudie Vinson Rogers and Evie Lee Vinson Taylor.

Any information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Freeda,

You asked me to send you info on John Vincent / Vinson's family.  You can find that at my main genealogy site MyKinFolks.org.  Here's a link for John Vincent's family group: http://mykinfolks.org/Vincent/f7.htm.  As I'm sure you can tell, it only lists my great-grandfather Aaron and does not list John's 15 other children.  Please email me and I'll share those with you.  My email address is ronv@ronv.net.  I've uploaded John Vincent's family to many websites in the past.  Unfortunately, people keep replicating my errors because no one seems to realize what the original sources were.  Therefore, I've been trying to avoid giving too much information on multiple websites.  Thanks for understanding.
