My Virginia Ancestors: BELL, LAWSON, LYON/s, PEEBLES, PERRIN, RATLIFF, WEATHERFORD

William Henry BELL was born in 1826 in VA, married Sarah WEATHERFORD, whose mother was Rhoda LYON/S. Wm H BELL & Sarah moved to Mercer Co, KY and then to Breckinridge County.

William LAWSON was brought to the colonies as an indentured slave as punishment for his part in the Battle of Culloden (Scotland-1746). I have pretty much researched this line.

Capt David PEEBLES "..of Fife, Scotland. He was one of three hundred adherents of King Charles I condemned to the headman’s block by Cromwell who escaped to Virginia in 1649. He was married to Elspet Mackie, who probably died in Scotland."

One of my Rev War Ancestors is Reuben (Ruben) RATLIFF. There is much confusion over his birth year. According to the DAR headstone, it was 1759. According to the math (d.1852 at age 84) it would have been 1768. According to the Census records, it is 1767.

If anyone can help with William Henry BELL, that would be amazing as he is the line with the least information beyond him. We know he was a blacksmith. He married Sarah Weatherford in abt 1848. He was born September 8, 1826 in Mercer Co. KY or Bedford Co, VA and died June 13, 1887 in Breckinridge Co, Kentucky

Where is your Reuben Ratliff from in VA.? I have a Nathan Ratliff in Montgomery Co. that I joined DAR throughh. I also have another Ratliff line that seems to be going to Botetourt or near there. Both lines end up in Pike County, Ky.
Hi Sharon.
Was your Nathan the s/o William Ratliff and Susanah (maiden name unknown to me)? And William was the s/o Ratliff and Mary Touchstone. Is this your line?
Hi Sherry,

Yes this is my line. Nathan was the s/o William and Susannah. I have seen where William was listed as being s/o Robert and Mary Touchstone Ratliff. Not to sure of the original sourcing of this connection though.

I am descended through Nathan's daughter Rebecca who married a John Akers. The Akers line is a dead stop for me right now.
Taken from my RATLIFF page on my website:

The following is an email exchange with Larry Ratliff who wrote: Some Descendants of John Ratliff & Charlotte White, 1765-1997 By Larry Ratliff, Jack Hockett, Gerald Ratliff, Grace Addison Ratliff

Hello Sherry:

The William Ratliff born Dec 18 1822 in Va and died Jan. 26, 1898 in Ky is the son of James Ratliff and Elizabeth Lawson. James is the son of Reuben Ratliff, Jr, the Rev. War Soldier, and Phebe Ratliff.

Reuben Ratliff is a brother to my 3rd great grandfather John Ratliff that married Charlotte White. And their parents were Ruben Ratliff [Sr.] and Frances --------never did find out what her maiden name was.

Ruben Sr. father was Samuel Ratliff. The above Phebe Ratliff was a daughter of Silas "Anselus" Ratliff and Elizabeth.

This Silas "Anselus" Ratliff is a cousin to Ruben Sr. Silas "Anselus" Ratliff father was Robert Ratliff and Mary Touchstone.

Robert Ratliff and Samuel Ratliff are brothers I do believe.

Now the Rev. War soldier Nathan Ratliff is a son of William Ratliff and Susanah, William is the brother to Silas "Anselus" Ratliff .

I hope this will help.
