asked to be allowed to bring proof. Another entry in the General Court records, July 2Oth, 1671, shows that Robert Ruffin was guardian of the orphans of Benedict Stafford.

[i] William Stafford afterwards removed to York county. There is on record there, dated March 3rd, 1644, the inventory and appraisement of the personal estate of William Stafford, " late deceased," which was at Chiskiack in the possession of John Cluverius, clerk, valued at 30,681 lbs. tobacco, and including 8 negroes. William Stafford was born in 1607, and his wife was named Rebena (Hotten). Among the head-rights to a grant to him in 1635 is Christopher Stafford. Februafy 2d, 1657, it is stated in the York records that Joseph Watkins was guardian of Humphrey Stafford, son and heir of Christopher Stafford, deceased, having married his mother, Elizabeth. In the General Court records, 1675, there is mention that Mrs. Beazley, of James City county, in her will, dated 1664, left a negro to her cousin, Mr. Humphrey Stafford, of Virginia. On September 30th, 1681, Humphrey and John Gwyn, in their own right, and as attorneys of Humphrey Stafford, petitioned the General Court, claiming that they (the three) were the nearest allied to Colonel John Burnham, deceased of Middlesex, and

•Name: Dr. Thomas PILCHER , M.D.
•Sex: M
•Birth: bef 1810 in Stafford Co, Va (probably)
•Note:
Possible child of this Charles Pilcher. William Lewis and Dr. Thomas Pilcher were brothers. William L. and Tom lost track of each other after their family moved to Ohio and William moved further west. Both Lucille Vernon and Helen Pilcher Hall (descendent of William L) have corresponded with Bob (descendent of Dr. Tom) concerning William L's father, said by William L to be named Charles, from a prominent Virginia family. [The link to this Charles is tentative and not proven. See also Notes, William Lewis Pilcher, Tom's brother.]

Dr. Tom and Lucinda were married in Virginia, possibly Stafford County and subsequently moved to Ohio. As he married in Virginia, presumably it was prior to their move and he would have had to have been several years older than his brother, William L. who was 14 at the time of the move. When he was in his late seventies, Dr. Tom and Lucinda moved to Olathe, Kansas. Both of them died there. Dr. Tom appears to have moved to Olathe when his son moved there. His grandson was born in Olathe in 1882, so they would have moved there during or before

William Stanton Pilcher (January 5, 1803–August 14, 1858) was the eleventh mayor of Louisville, Kentucky, serving from 1857 to 1858.

Pilcher was born in Stafford County, Virginia to a wealthy manufacturing family. He came to Louisville in 1833 to study law.

Pilcher unsuccessfully ran for lieutenant governor in 1844 as a Jacksonian Democrat, but was elected mayor of Louisville on the Know Nothing party on April 4, 1857 in a landslide. However, by May 13, 1858 he was too ill to continue his duties, and he died later that year, becoming the first mayor of Louisville to die in office.

Has anyone here done much research in Stafford County, VA? Looking for tips on sources I could check for the time period 1775-1800. I've already looked at the tax and court records on microfilm that can be ILL'd from the Library of Virginia, but I'm wondering what primary documents exist from that time period that I might be missing. I'm trying to locate any and all references to the PILCHER family in Stafford County during that time period.
