I would like to find more information on my great-great-great grandmother. My mother's cousin sent me some information from a family Bible and it said that her name was Anna Walker and that she was born on 28 February 1942. The 1860 and 1870 U.S. censuses say that she was born in Ireland, but when I told my cousin this he said that she was probably Scotch-Irish.
Anna Walker married John Bennet Winters (born 22 December 1932 in Leith, Midlothian, Scotland) on 10 October 1859 in Tonawanda, Erie, New York. I found them in the 1860 census, in Tonawanda, Erie, New York. Their daughter Catherine Elizabeth Winters was born in Tonawanda on 12 November 1861. By 1870 the family was in Chicago, Cook, Illinois, in Chicago Ward 9. In both censuses she is listed as Ann Winters. As far as I know they had only one child; if there were others they were born and died between censuses.
According to the information from the family Bible, Anna Walker died on 19 September 1872. I assume she died in Chicago because I'm pretty sure that's where Catherine Elizabeth Winters' daughter Kathleen Graham was born (on 31 October 1879), and her husband James Graham was from Chicago too (probably not originally, but he did live there later). I have not been able to find a death record for her. I don't know what happened to John Bennet Winters after 1870. There was no death date for him in the family Bible and I have not found him in the census. By 1881 Catherine Elizabeth Winters and her husband and daughter were living in Hochelaga, Quebec, Canada. They then had a son, Garfield Graham, born 26 May 1882 (or possibly 1881) in Quebec. On 20 November 1885, Catherine Elizabeth Winters married her second husband, James Mapplebeck. In 1891 they were living in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Around 1892 they moved back to the United States. In 1900 Catherine Elizabeth Winters and her children were living in Alton, Madison, Illinois. Her husband was not with them but she is listed as married, and I know he moved with the family because I found a listing for him in an Alton, Illinois telephone directory. By 1910 she was in St. Louis, Missouri, and was listed in the census as widowed. She lived in St. Louis until her death on 4 March 1942.
