It could be possible that the birth date is wrong. I know that I have found a difference on a few of them. That could very well be true about his WWI Draft card. I do know that railroaders are in my family and that my granddad has said that one of my great grandfathers took the last steam engine out of West Virginia when they were done.

Is it possible that the birth record at the WV Culture site was a delayed record?  I've seen that with members of my own family.  Months might go by before the birth was recorded in the official records, leading to errors in terms of the day and month a child was born (especially if the family lived in a rural area).

The WWI card also states Artie's birth location was Valley Point, WV, and that he was a locomotive foreman.

Shawna...just to confuse us even more, upon closer review, the WWI Draft info on Ancestry said he was born 2/17/1886, not 1889! If you want the image, I can send it to you (email addy?)

Got the WWI Draft Card from Ancestry. Would be interesting to find out what the "Mc." in his given name stands for....could be lots of things....

I had found Artie's WWII Draft card, but did not know about the WWI draft card. Where did you find that at? I was wondering about the Mc.Martin part of the name. My grandma can't remember much about them anymore or remember where all the papers my grandfather had compiled were put.... I did get Anzella's card from the funeral home from her though. It was weird how that said it was Anzella and the records at the court house say Anna Zella. Thank you for the information so far. I haven't made it past Anna Zella or Mc. Martin, that was as far as I made it. I know that there is Native American pretty close there somewhere in the line because it shows with some of the Liston's. I know the WWII draft card has all the correct information on it, I'm not sure why there's 2 different months listed. There are quite a few Liston's in Preston County and buried there, especially at Valley Point. We know that some of them are distantly related to us, but not sure of how. That side of the family never really had much to do with one another and I know there were some falling outs that happened. Thank you for the information you all have provided.

BTW Shauna, the WV Culture site record of Artie Liston's birth states father was Mc. Martin Listion, mother Anna Zella Liston. the "Mc." is likely an abbreviation for something like McClellan or something like that. The important issue here is that the father's name was in two given name pieces....Mc. and Martin.

Interesting that the WV Culture record says Artie Liston was born May 10, 1889 while the WWI/WWI Draft Registration Cards both say 2/17/1889. Can't explain that, unless there was a recording error or there were two Artie Marshal Listons...?

1880 Census has John G. Liston (51) and wife Elizabeth (54) living in Pleasant, Preston County.  His occupation is farmer.  Also living there are Solomon (20), Nancy E. (18), Rachel E. (16), John A. (14), Anzelly (12) and William F. Bryte (9).  William's relationship to the Liston family isn't given.
